Today was the first day of the year for the Miami Dolphins and the rest of the NFL to open up the regular season of football. Today also marked the day where 50% of NFL football fans will go to bed slightly depressed, clearly based upon their teams performance. I just happened to be one of those fans on this particular night. my favorite team, the Miami Dolphins, lost to one of the best teams in the NFL by two points..in the last 30 seconds of the game. Super depressing. Being a fan of a sport is somewhat of an odd science. You see, you have no control of the outcome and are just a small portion of a larger than life organization, but it's just so easy to get attached. Next week should be different.

I totally feel you Ben. I'm from Wisconsin, so as you already assumed I'm a cheesehead. Go Pack Go. We obviously won our game at Jacksonville, but I would've liked to see us win by more than 4 points, and it was definitely scary to see the Jags driving to potentially win the game with under a minute left. But it is SO easy to get attached to these larger than life organizations. I'm a fan of most all sports (aside from the Packers I like the Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks) but I can't place the other 3 teams I mentioned on the same level as the Packers. I don't know if it's because of the Packers consistent success that trumps the rest, but they're especially larger than life for me and probably the rest of Wisconsin. They don't have nearly the same feel as the rest of the WI sports teams, it's not really an organization so much as it is a dimension of everyone's weekly life. Good luck to the fins this season and Go Pack.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Ben! Nobody can control what happens on the field (unless you are playing or coaching) and for half of the football community they will already start out with a loosing record. With that people will always root for their teams or other teams if it helps out their's, and thats why for me and all of the other true football fans out there we will support our teams till the end of the season and then just hope we get great draft pics or trades and do it again the next season! I am personally a Lions fan and even tho they never win I will always root for them till the day I die. Even tho they always get cheated by the refs.
